Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults in the Med Surg unit, including assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of responses to treatment.
- Administer medications and therapies, monitor for adverse effects, and manage IVs, wound care, and routine procedures as ordered.
- Monitor patient status, respond to changes in condition, and escalate concerns per protocol; participate in rapid assessment when needed.
- Document care accurately in the electronic medical record; communicate clearly with the interdisciplinary team; ensure timely and compliant timekeeping per Medefis rules.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and case managers; perform patient and family education and assist with discharge planning.
- Maintain infection control and patient safety standards; adhere to unit policies and state vaccination requirements.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Maine (or eligibility) and in good standing
- Med Surg nursing experience in an inpatient setting
- Ability to work 3 x 12-hour daytime shifts (7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.), with variable days and every other weekend; no call required
- Influenza vaccination required by the State of Maine; medical exemptions accepted with approval
- Ability to work in a fast-paced inpatient Med Surg environment and comply with timekeeping and unit policies
