Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures and in post-anesthesia care, in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff
- Administer medications, monitor for adverse reactions, and respond to changes in patient status with appropriate interventions
- Monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea, and ensure safe recovery from anesthesia per physician orders and standards of care
- Educate patients and their families about perioperative care, postoperative instructions, and discharge planning
- Adhere to infection control, patient safety standards, and hospital policies; document care accurately in the medical record
- Demonstrate professional judgment and work independently within the scope of practice, while coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team
Requirements
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Licensure: Valid, current, unrestricted RN license to practice in any state within the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Additional certifications: Complete Pediatric Trauma Care After Resuscitation (P-CAR) within 6 months of hire; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) completed within 6 months of hire
- Experience: Ability to work in a surgical center setting; pediatric acute care experience is typical for this role
- Other: Ability to work 3x12-hour days as part of a travel assignment; orientation schedule and housing logistics as noted above
