Responsibilities
- Deliver professional nursing care on a medical step-down unit, including ongoing assessment, care planning, and evaluation of patient progress.
- Monitor patient status, administer medications, and respond to clinical changes; document care and collaborate with the care team.
- Manage care for patients with sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, CKD, substance use disorders, status epilepticus, and encephalopathy.
- Maintain a patient-to-nurse ratio of approximately 1:4; may float to IMCU units (5J and 12A most common) as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and case management; participate in rapid response and code situations as required.
- Ensure adherence to ACLS/BLS standards and unit protocols; emphasize patient safety and quality of care.
Requirements
- Active RN license (state not specified)
- 2 years of RN experience in a medical step-down/PCU setting
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Ability to work day shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment
- Willingness to float to IMCU units as needed
