Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive postoperative nursing care for a group of PACU patients, applying the nursing process and aligning care with the medical plan of care and input from patients and families.
- Monitor patient status, including airway, breathing, circulation, pain management, and recovery progress; respond promptly to changes in condition.
- Administer medications and therapies per physician orders and facility protocol; document interventions accurately.
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and the health care team to coordinate timely, safe delivery of care for patients across age ranges as assigned.
- Incorporate teaching and discharge planning needs into the overall plan of care; prepare patients and families for transition from the PACU.
- Delegate appropriate care activities to other nursing staff based on competence and scope of practice; maintain patient safety and quality of care.
- Maintain thorough, accurate documentation of assessments, plans, interventions, and outcomes in the patient record.
Requirements
- Registered professional nurse (RN) with active licensure appropriate to practice in the United States.
- Ability to work evenings and 10-hour shifts in a hospital PACU setting.
- Comfort caring for patients across age ranges, as assigned to the unit.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and documentation skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration with the medical team and ancillary staff; commitment to patient safety and quality of care.
