Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a PCU setting for adults with higher-acuity conditions, maintaining a 1:4 nurse–patient ratio.
- Monitor and respond to clinical changes in patients with sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, chronic kidney disease, status epilepticus, and encephalopathy; may float to IMCU units (5J and 12A as the most common)
- Administer medications, manage IV therapies, and monitor for adverse effects in a timely, evidence-based manner
- Perform ongoing assessments, document care plans, and communicate changes to the multidisciplinary team; participate in rounds and handoffs
- Collaborate with physicians, case management, and family members to plan timely discharges and patient education
- Adhere to infection control practices, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license (state-specific licensure as required for the assignment)
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a step-down/IMCU environment
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts; four days per week
- Willingness to float to IMCU units (e.g., 5J, 12A) as needed
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and collaborative communication skills
- Experience managing complex cardiovascular and respiratory conditions in a high-acuity setting
