Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults with stroke, altered mental status, and general medical–surgical diagnoses on a MS Stroke Stepdown unit.
- Monitor neuro status (NIHSS as required), vitals, and clinical changes; respond to deterioration and escalate per protocol.
- Administer medications, manage IV pumps, feeding tubes, and other routine equipment; implement order sets and care plans.
- Document care thoroughly in the EMR (EPIC) and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team for care transitions, discharge planning, and family education.
- Float to other med–surg areas as needed; adhere to unit-specific procedures, isolation precautions, and safety protocols.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort, contribute to care planning, and support patients and families through the treatment process.
Requirements
- Active RN license in New York; NURSYS verification of NY license and all active RN licenses
- 2+ years of Med Surg experience with stroke stepdown experience
- Current BLS (AHA) certification; NIHSS certification or NIHSS completion required for this unit (can be obtained prior to start)
- Experience with EPIC EMR system
- Travel experience required; locals within 75 miles may be offered local rate
- RTO (requested time off) must be included at submission; valid driver’s license with address matching demographics
- Ability to work in an inpatient MS stroke stepdown setting; accommodating float requirements
