Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to laboring patients, including admission assessment, continuous monitoring, and labor support
- Assist with delivery and immediate newborn care; provide postpartum care for the mother
- Monitor fetal status using electronic fetal monitoring; interpret trends and respond per clinical protocols
- Administer medications, analgesia, and orders while monitoring for adverse effects; support newborn stabilization and mother-baby bonding
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record (Meditech); collaborate with the care team to ensure safety and quality of care
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and ancillary staff; participate in on-call activities as scheduled
- Educate patients and families on postpartum and newborn care, discharge planning, and safety considerations
Requirements
- Hawaii Registered Nurse license active by start of assignment; if not currently licensed in Hawaii, must apply upon acceptance
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Minimum of 3 years labor and delivery nursing experience
- Demonstrated ability to work in an L&D unit with postpartum care; proficient in fetal monitoring and postpartum assessment
- STABLE and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (FM) is recommended
- Willingness to work variable day/night shifts and 12-hour shifts; scheduled on-call at least once per month
- Must arrive the Thursday prior to start to complete the employee health clearance process
