Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history
- Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care for behavioral health patients
- Make nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status and recommend treatment options
- Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to design appropriate treatment plans
- Administer psychotropic medications and other prescriptions; monitor and document reactions
- Arrange further medical attention when necessary and coordinate referrals
- Help clients understand the nature of emotional disturbances and the need for treatment
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients
- Assess pain levels and vital signs; implement pain management and other treatments
- Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician orders; protect patient confidentiality
- Maintain accurate records of treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the electronic health record
- Provide courteous, high-quality service and respond to requests or referrals
Requirements
- Active New York RN license (NY License ONLY)
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
- Minimum two years of behavioral health/psychiatric nursing experience
- Education: current RN education and licensure in New York
- Ability to work in an inpatient behavioral health setting and comply with unit protocols
