Responsibilities
- Deliver coordinated nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients during operative procedures, following established standards of care and the nursing process.
- Supervise and direct the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff in the OR and coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other disciplines.
- Maintain patient safety and sterile technique, monitor intraoperative status, and document care in accordance with policy.
- Prepare and position the patient, assist with intraoperative tasks, manage equipment and supplies, and participate in counts and specimen handling as required.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient outcomes, utilizing critical thinking, professional judgment, and independent decision-making.
Requirements
- Active RN license (where applicable) and ability to practice in the operating room setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide intraoperative nursing care with a focus on patient safety
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff
- Ability to work the listed shift pattern (4x10-hour days) in a high-stakes perioperative environment
- Knowledge of perioperative nursing processes, infection control, and sterile technique
- Willingness to work in a department where intraoperative care is provided and to exclude PACU, anesthesia functions, pre-op holding, and central sterile functions
