Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to Stepdown/PCU patients, including a mix of surgical, medical, and neuro cases; float to other units as needed.
- Perform line management tasks: IV insertion, PICC/central line management, vascular access care, dialysis fistula care/management, and A-line management.
- Titrate vasoactive drips per protocol (e.g., neosynephrine, amiodarone, cardizem) and monitor hemodynamic status.
- Cardiac and airway care: obtain 12-lead EKGs, manage CPAP/BiPAP, Trach care, and respond to cardiac events (defibrillation/cardioversion as indicated).
- Ortho/MS/Onc nursing responsibilities: epidural/PCA pumps, feeding tubes, wound vac, and related post-op/medical care.
- Common equipment on the unit includes bladder scanners, IV pumps, PCA pumps, SCDs, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and Airvo; maintain readiness and proper function.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort with appropriate monitoring, documentation, and collaboration with the health care team.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in Missouri (state of assignment)
- Proficiency with IV insertion, PICC/central line management, vascular access care, dialysis fistula care/management, and A-line management
- Cardiac care skills: obtain 12-lead EKGs, sheaths removal, and readiness for cardioversion/defibrillation (as applicable)
- Airway management skills: CPAP/BiPAP and Trach care
- Floating to Stepdown/PCU units and caring for a mix of surgical, medical, and neuro patients
- Ability to titrate vasoactive drips and manage line equipment per protocol
