Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adult medical-surgical and telemetry patients, including those in neurosurgical and surgical pathways.
- Monitor and document patient status, perform focused assessments, and administer medications and IV therapies as ordered.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans; adjust care as patient needs evolve.
- Utilize EPIC for accurate, timely documentation and ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
- Float to units within the central pool (hematology, oncology, orthopedics, med tele, general surgery, neurology including neuro SDU and neurosurgery, ENT, GYN) and assist with ED boarders or surge areas as needed.
- Respond to clinical changes, provide rapid assessment and escalation when necessary; participate in discharge planning and patient / family education.
- Maintain a flexible schedule with the unit’s needs, including working at least every other weekend and/or shifts adjusted to patient care demands.
- Adhere to hospital policies regarding safety, patient privacy, and quality metrics; ensure reliable, compassionate care in a high-acuity environment.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse license active in Vermont or eligible for licensure in the appropriate state; must maintain licensure throughout assignment.
- AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification or demonstrated NIHSS competency required prior to start.
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience; experience in a large trauma level 1 teaching facility preferred.
- EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years.
- Demonstrated unit specialty experience relevant to Med Surg/Tele and neurosurgical care; ability to float to multiple units as assigned.
- Must be able to work 12-hour night shifts; flexible scheduling; reliable transportation required.
