Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for CVICU patients, including planning, coordination, and ongoing assessment; supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary staff within scope of practice.
- Manage critical care therapies such as mechanical ventilation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and ICP/ventriculostomy care; administer medications and blood products as ordered.
- Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and respond to life-threatening events; confirm alarm settings with monitors staff and adjust monitoring plans as patient condition warrants.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, participate in rounds, document care per policy, and ensure accurate, timely communication with providers and families.
- Support safe patient care through adherence to unit protocols, equipment checks, infection control practices, and appropriate escalation through the chain of command.
- Apply knowledge across neurological, trauma, respiratory, and multi-system failure scenarios to stabilize patients and transition care appropriately.
Requirements
- Current RN license in the state of practice (California)
- Education: High School/GED or equivalent required; Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required; Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 1 year of hire; NIHSS; AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS required
- Experience: At least two years of recent critical care experience; six months CCU experience preferred
- Additional: Ability to work in a CVICU setting with rotating day shifts and 12-hour schedules
