Responsibilities
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts; determine packaging and sterilization methods in consultation with the Processing Manager; document contents and ensure aseptic preparation.
- Operate steam sterilizers following established procedures; monitor time, pressure, and temperature; load/unload sterilizers and organize items for distribution; perform basic maintenance on sterilizers as needed.
- Verify sterility by preparing cultures, reviewing test packs, interpreting results, and completing required documentation; adjust processes to maintain sterility standards.
- Inspect and adjust medical equipment to ensure instruments and devices meet specifications before issue; send nonconforming items for repair.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment per approved procedures; prevent cross-contamination; set up decontamination equipment and clean work areas; handle infectious waste and linen per protocol.
- Receive, verify, and store supplies from vendors; track stock against requisitions; document receipts and discrepancies; maintain inventory par levels and fulfill stock for patient care areas; record equipment usage and service histories.
Requirements
- Certification: Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation: BLS (American Heart Association)
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Sterile Processing Technician
- Setting experience: Experience in a large, high-volume acute care environment
- Travel experience: At least 6 months of travel experience
- References: Two professional references from the last two assignments
