Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for neuro-focused patients on the PCU/step-down units, following the plan of care and hospital policies.
- Monitor neurological status, vital signs, and telemetry; interpret EKG rhythms and respond to changes promptly.
- Administer medications including Cardene and Cleviprex; manage IV therapy and monitor therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
- Implement and update care plans; document assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the electronic health record; participate in rounds with the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance; respond to emergencies and coordinate with physicians and ancillary staff.
- Float to related units as needed; adhere to unit-specific nurse-to-patient ratios (typical ranges around 1:4 to 1:5) and ensure smooth continuity of care across floors.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Florida (or eligibility with licensure in good standing)
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro/PCU/step-down nursing experience; neuro unit experience is required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Proficiency reading and interpreting EKG rhythms; experience with telemetry
- Experience with neuro-directed medications (Cardene and Cleviprex) preferred
- Degree accreditation must be on profile or there must be equivalent to 5 years of neuro RN experience
- Ability to work in a hospital setting with floating responsibilities and variable patient assignments
