Responsibilities
- Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia, including preparation of anesthesia equipment before patient arrival, placement of monitors, maintaining equipment cleanliness, ensuring availability of specialized equipment and supplies, and setting up medications as applicable. Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet daily needs; assist with difficult intubations and central line placement.
- Operate the cell saver machine, track lab reports, and participate in advanced surgical cases (e.g., cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, trauma). Work directly with designated faculty and provide on-call coverage.
- Ensure anesthesia equipment is in good working order; perform preventive maintenance, set up and operate sophisticated equipment, and troubleshoot as needed. Serve as the key resource for using and maintaining specialized equipment.
- Assist in developing and delivering in-service training programs; support training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
- Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, transport monitors; calibrate anesthesia machines; attach fiberoptic bronchoscopes to the video monitor.
- Set up rooms between cases, stock carts, and provide full end-of-day setup. Coordinate with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment; support ectopic procedures for anesthesia care.
- Provide backup to the shift supervisor in his/her absence due to vacation or illness; perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.
Requirements
- BLS certification
- Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Tech
- Preferred education: four-year college education including related technical training; or two-year college education with related technical training and two years of experience; or an equivalent education/experience combination
- Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other nationally recognized certifying body preferred
- Ability to work in a hospital/acute care setting; willingness to participate in on-call coverage
