Responsibilities
- Provide bedside RN care for adult step-down patients, including those ventilated or with trachs, chest tubes, arterial lines, and cardiac arrhythmias.
- Troubleshoot ventilator alarms, manage ventilator settings, and coordinate with Respiratory Therapy; monitor for changes in respiratory status.
- Titrate vasopressors and sedation drips; manage insulin drips per protocol; monitor hemodynamics and patient response.
- Maintain arterial and central lines, monitor telemetry, and assist with post-cardiac or neuro care as needed; respond to alarms and changes in patient condition.
- Manage external pacemakers and chest tubes; interpret basic arterial blood gases and support ABG interpretation as appropriate.
- Float within the service line to lower-acuity floors when needed; collaborate with RTs, PT, Pharmacy, and other team members; adhere to unit staffing and policies.
- Adhere to unit-specific scheduling rules: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio; weekend coverage of two shifts every other weekend; orientation and onboarding completed prior to full duty.

Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri (or eligibility); IL license may be accepted if pending per noted licensing guidelines; MO submission may be allowed without license in some cases per policy.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; must have been at the bedside within the last 6 months; travel experience required; first-timers not accepted; prior charge experience preferred; trauma Level II experience required.
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (BCLS), NIHSS.
- Clinical competencies: Ventilator care and trach management with alarm troubleshooting; vasopressor and sedation drip titration; insulin drip management; arterial/central line care; chest tube care; external pacemaker management; telemetry and basic ABG interpretation.
- Education: RN (degree not specified beyond licensure in input); must be eligible for practice in the listed setting.
- Non-local candidates only; local radius rule applies (75 miles); RTO: max 7 days with manager approval; no RTO during the first week of assignment.
- Orientation: 24 hours; on-call status: No.
