Responsibilities
- Verify patient identity and review physician orders before beginning x-ray procedures.
- Operate x-ray equipment to capture radiographic images of bones, tissues, and organs as prescribed.
- Explain procedures to patients and address questions; position patients appropriately, including assisting with movement of individuals with limited mobility.
- Handle radiologic equipment safely and minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
- Observe patient status and interpret information to meet age-specific needs; produce diagnostic, high-quality images for Radiologist interpretation.
- Notify management of damaged or malfunctioning equipment; utilize electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, exam, and any provider comments; adhere to dual patient identifier procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure images are correctly identified and sent to the PACS system.
- Utilize C-arm/O-arm imaging as part of procedures when applicable; work within a Level 1 trauma center environment as required by unit needs.
Requirements
- Completion of formal training from an approved School of Radiologic Technology and ARRT certification.
- NYS radiologic technology license (or eligibility to obtain prior to starting).
- Two years of X-ray Technologist experience; Level 1 trauma center experience preferred.
- OR experience required; recent OR experience highly valued.
- Ability to move or lift patients and stand for extended periods.
- BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; effective written and verbal communication; patient and compassionate disposition.
- Ability to report to on-call shifts within 30 minutes; comfortable with on-call, callbacks, and holiday coverage as needed.
