Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures as the OR Circulator.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, consent, and history; participate in time-out procedures; advocate for the anesthetized patient throughout the perioperative phase.
- Prepare the OR suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment; maintain aseptic technique and coordinate with anesthesia, surgeons, and scrub personnel.
- Manage non-sterile intraoperative tasks: open sterile supplies, handle specimens, document intraoperative events, and maintain accurate surgical counts.
- Continuously monitor patient status and vital signs; document responses and collaborate with anesthesia to ensure stability.
- Document nursing care, medications, implants, supplies, and patient responses in the electronic health record per policy and regulatory standards; participate in QA and safety initiatives.

Requirements
- Education: ADN or BSN; BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license in New Mexico; compact nursing license may be substituted for NM licensure.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (or obtain within 6 months); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or required based on services; CNOR preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of OR circulator experience strongly preferred; experience in Critical Access Hospital, rural, or small facility is a plus; knowledge of general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, endoscopy, and minor trauma is preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, aseptic technique, and EHR documentation; excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities; ability to work independently in a fast-paced, resource-limited setting.
- Licensure/Eligibility: Current NM RN license or valid compact nursing license for NM; ability to obtain NM privileges as required.
