Responsibilities
- Provide post-anesthesia care for patients in PACU, including airway, breathing, and circulation assessment
- Monitor incision sites, temperature, vital signs, and other indicators of stability or potential complications
- Manage pain control, nausea, and patient comfort; respond to changes in patient status and escalate as needed
- Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams; document care and ensure smooth handoffs to next care team
- Utilize unit equipment and systems (e.g., Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair Paws warmers, HP/Phillips monitors) according to protocol
- Maintain patient safety and readiness for transfer or discharge from PACU
Requirements
- Licensure: Active Hawaii RN license by start date (or eligible and applying)
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association; PALS recommended and may be required for specific positions
- Experience: 2+ years of critical care RN experience (ER or ICU in a hospital); this may be substituted for PACU experience in some cases
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; ability to practice as a registered nurse in Hawaii
- Skills: Strong critical thinking, bedside assessment, and documentation; ability to work in a PACU setting and adapt to variable shift lengths
