Responsibilities
- Deliver coordinated nursing care for obstetric patients during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period according to established standards and the nursing process.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status, administer medications as ordered, respond to clinical changes, and document assessments and interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, neonatology, and ancillary staff to develop and implement a safe, effective care plan.
- Supervise and direct the activities of various levels of nursing staff, delegate duties appropriately, and coordinate care across disciplines.
- Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education to support ongoing health and safety after the hospital stay.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice (California)
- Minimum 2 years of recent obstetric/L&D nursing experience
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Level II nursery experience required; postpartum experience preferred
- BSN preferred
