Responsibilities
- Serve as the RN First Assistant in the operating room, collaborating with the surgeon to perform robotic Da Vinci procedures and ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Provide RNFA duties in collaboration with the surgical team; scrub and circulate as needed, with proficiency in perioperative nursing practice.
- Support a range of robotic procedures (urology, gynecology, colorectal, surgical oncology, thoracic, and general surgery) as required by the unit.
- Maintain sterile technique, instrument counts, and appropriate intraoperative communication; document perioperative care and patient status accurately.
- Work within CNOR standards and RNFA scope, transitioning between RNFA duties and traditional OR RN roles as assigned.
- Adhere to unit-specific on-call expectations (up to 11 pm) and the Monday–Friday daytime schedule; no weekend or holiday coverage unless unit needs dictate.
Requirements
- NY Registered Nurse license (active) required
- CNOR certification required
- Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program
- Da Vinci robotic experience required; experience with robotic urology, gynecology, colorectal, surgical oncology, thoracic, or general surgery preferred
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum of two years OR experience; trauma center OR experience preferred
- Ability to scrub and circulate; able to work effectively in a perioperative team environment
- Eligible to work in a hospital operating room setting and meet unit-specific on-call requirements
Education
- NY RN licensure
- CNOR certification
- Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program
- Da Vinci robotics training/experience
