Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for high-acuity Step-Down/PCU patients, including vented/trached patients, post-cardiac care, chest tubes, and high-level medical management.
- Titrate vasopressors (e.g., Levo) and insulin drips; manage sedation as needed; monitor continuous hemodynamic status.
- Manage line access and devices (arterial lines, chest tubes, external pacing) and troubleshoot related equipment; interpret dysrhythmias.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (respiratory, PT, RTs, Pharmacy, Social Work) and participate in Rapid Response when needed.
- Document care in the electronic health record; ensure safety, accurate charting, and adherence to unit protocols; float within scope to lower-acuity areas as required.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri or eligibility; for IL submissions, license in hand is required due to non-compact state rules; verify state-specific licensure requirements. No local candidates within 75 miles.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS (HCP), NIHSS.
- Experience: minimum 2 years RN experience; travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted; must have been at bedside within the last 6 months; trauma level II experience required; previous charge experience preferred.
- Skills: able to perform high-acuity PCU duties including vent/trach management, vasopressor and drips titration, arterial lines, chest tubes, and dysrhythmia interpretation; EPIC charting; ability to float within scope to lower-acuity floors; complete pre-start modules and pass fit testing as required.
