Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the ED for a wide age range, including initial assessment, triage, and ongoing monitoring
- Administer medications and IV therapies, manage drips/infusions, and perform procedures as ordered; monitor responses and adjust care as needed
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, IV placement, wound care, and other bedside procedures; support rapid assessment and emergency stabilization
- Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record; coordinate care with ED physicians, techs, and ancillary staff
- Collaborate with the ED team and float to Med-Surg/Tele as needed to maintain patient flow and safe assignments (approximately 1:5 ratio on Med-Surg/Tele)
- Participate in precepting or mentoring as needed and respond to codes or high-acuity events per unit protocols
Requirements
- Education: Registered Nurse (ASN/BSN accepted)
- Licensure: active RN license (state of assignment)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ENPC or TNCC (TNCC required or proof of class with date applied; NIHSS required prior to start; NRP preferred)
- Experience: minimum 2 years of in-unit clinical experience; at least 2 years in the ED or relevant specialty; previous travel experience required (one travel assignment suffices); EPIC EMR experience within the past 2 years; charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills: ability to function in an ED setting and float to Med-Surg/Tele as needed; comfortable with ED procedures, triage, and inter-facility transports when required
