Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to patients across the age spectrum within the Med Surg unit.
- Assess patient needs, problems and concerns; perform ongoing data collection across physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive domains, including nutrition, pain, education, family involvement and patient advocacy.
- Develop and update a goal-directed plan of care, prioritizing based on diagnosis and expected outcomes; involve patient, family, and designee in planning.
- Implement care thoroughly and safely; delegate and coordinate duties of the health care team; participate in orientation and training of staff as needed.
- Document clearly and accurately in the electronic medical record; communicate changes in condition and treatment to the care team; support research activities as requested.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; maintain required competencies, licenses, certifications and education per local administration and regulatory agencies.
- Educate patients, families and caregivers about plan of care; maintain professional communication with patients, families and team members.
Requirements
- Current registered nurse license in California (or eligibility to practice per state and local regulations) and in good standing.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, totaling 36 hours per week.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and thorough, accurate documentation practices.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking and care coordination skills; ability to coordinate multidisciplinary care.
- Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance and vaccination requirements (exemptions considered where applicable).
- Willingness to participate in orientation and ongoing education; ability to adapt to a hospital Med Surg environment.
