Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care in the Emergency Department, including triage, primary and secondary assessments, and rapid stabilization of patients with life-threatening and non-life-threatening conditions.
- Administer medications, monitor patient response, and communicate changes in condition to the ED team and family.
- Perform appropriate invasive and non-invasive procedures within the RN scope of practice; apply evidence-based interventions to manage urgent and emergent care needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to streamline care, alleviate anxiety, and provide clear patient and family education about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans.
- Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments; coordinate referrals for post-emergency care and follow-up when needed.
- Document assessment findings, interventions, and discharge instructions; maintain infection prevention standards and patient safety principles throughout the ED stay.
Requirements
- Active NYS Registered Nurse licensure
- BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications; Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI)
- Two years of acute hospital RN nursing experience, with at least one year in an ED setting
- Ability to work in a high-acuity Emergency Department environment with a 3x12 rotating schedule and shift variations, including on-call components as scheduled
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills; comfort working with patients of all ages and their families
