Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for an assigned group of oncology patients during the night shift, across age ranges as assigned by the unit.
- Use the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate care that aligns with the medical plan of care and patient/family input.
- Collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team to coordinate delivery of care and ensure patient safety.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor responses, manage adverse effects, and adjust the plan of care as needed.
- Incorporate teaching and discharge planning into the overall plan of care for patients and families.
- Delegate appropriate aspects of patient care to other nursing staff based on current competence and legal scope of practice; this position is represented by CNA.
Requirements
- Registered professional nurse responsible for a designated group of patients during a night shift.
- Ability to apply the nursing process to evaluate and adjust care plans with input from the patient and significant others.
- Strong collaboration with physicians and the health care team; participate in coordinating patient care.
- Care for patients across age groups as assigned, with attention to safety, infection control, and documentation.
- Competence in clinical delegation to support nursing staff within scope of practice.
- Willingness to work nights and to contribute to a dynamic hospital environment on an oncology unit.
