Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care in the Emergency Department, including triage, primary assessment, treatment, and discharge planning under physician orders.
- Monitor patients, administer medications, manage IVs, and perform required procedures and therapies appropriate to emergency care.
- Prioritize and coordinate patient flow with the ED team, including communication with physicians, transport staff, and case management; apply ESI-based triage to determine care priorities.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and home care, addressing pain and safety while providing ongoing updates.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately; maintain infection prevention practices and safety standards throughout the ED stay.
- Participate in on-call coverage and rotate Day/Night/Holiday schedules as described, ensuring continuity of care and effective handoffs.
Requirements
- Active New York State RN license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI) required
- Minimum two years of acute hospital RN experience, with at least one year in an ED setting
- Ability to work in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment and to participate in a 3x12 rotating schedule, including on-call shifts every four weeks
