Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients, including oncology, step-down, and sickle cell-related care as needed.
- Administer prescribed medications (including chemotherapy when certified) and manage IV therapy, following facility protocols and safety standards.
- Monitor patient status, perform ongoing assessments, document vitals, symptoms, and changes; interpret labs and imaging as directed.
- Implement and adjust care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; perform wound care, basic procedures, and other typical med-surg treatments within scope.
- Ensure patient safety, infection prevention, and accurate discharge planning; educate patients and families on care plans, medications, and follow-up.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience in a similar-sized hospital setting
- Chemo certification preferred
- Experience with oncology, step-down, or hematology-related care is common for this assignment
- Nursys license verification required as part of credentialing process
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and adapt to a night-based schedule
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to follow evolving care plans and document accurately
