Responsibilities
- Plan and provide nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, including management of emergencies and circulating for cesarean deliveries.
- Supervise and delegate appropriate care tasks to ancillary personnel within the scope of practice.
- Assess maternal and fetal status, monitor amniotic fluid and vaginal bleeding, and recognize and manage perinatal emergencies (e.g., crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia).
- Manage pain control in labor, support alternative methods when appropriate, and assist with epidural catheter placement with monitoring before and after administration.
- Educate patients and families throughout all stages of perinatal care and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement individualized care plans.
- Document care and patient status in the electronic medical record and ensure continuity of care across shifts.
Requirements
- Active RN license in the state of practice (California) or as required by the assignment.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum two years of Labor & Delivery experience; two years of recent L&D experience strongly preferred.
- Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP; Intermediate Fetal Monitoring; Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or AWHONN certification as applicable.
- EPIC EMR experience required.
- Ability to work in a hospital, acute care setting, and to participate in night-shift schedules.
