Responsibilities
- Provide perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular/open heart cases, including circulating and, as assigned, scrub duties.
- Maintain sterile technique, manage instrument tables and supplies, and assist the surgical team with case preparation and completion.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other OR staff; anticipate needs, monitor patient status, and manage intraoperative equipment and medications per policy.
- When floated to other OR suites, circulate (not scrub) and support various specialties such as General, Orthopedic, Neuro, or ENT as needed.
- Document in Epic within the past two years and ensure accurate perioperative records; assist with patient transport and recovery planning as appropriate.
- Schedule and call requirements: three 12-hour shifts (0645–1915); one to two weekday on-call periods (1900–0715) and one full weekend of call every five weeks; be flexible to meet patient care needs and unit coverage.

Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license to practice in Vermont (active license required).
- BLS certification required; CNOR preferred.
- Minimum 2 years OR RN experience with recent experience and high competency in Cardiovascular/Open Heart Surgery.
- Prior travel nursing experience required.
- Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years (nonnegotiable).
- Scrub-heart capability is required (SCRUB HEARTS documented as a requirement).
- Ability to work in a large academic teaching hospital OR environment; may be asked to circulate or scrub as needed.
- Reliable transportation is required; public transit is not available in the area. All-season tires recommended for the November–April period.
- Willingness to be flexible with a Monday-to-Sunday work week and to participate in bi-weekly orientations.
