Responsibilities
- Deliver direct nursing care as the Charge RN in a high-acuity post-anesthesia recovery/acute care environment
- Monitor and stabilize post-anesthesia patients, guiding recovery progression and discharge readiness
- Read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips; identify blocks and respond according to protocol
- Coordinate care with anesthesia, surgical teams, and multidisciplinary staff; delegate tasks to ensure safe, efficient patient flow
- May float to inpatient PACU as needed; maintain safety, documentation, and patient throughput of 18–30 cases per shift
- Lead shift operations, maintain compliance with clinical policies, and ensure patient and staff safety
Requirements
- Active RN license for practice
- Minimum 2 years PACU experience; strong PACU Phase I recovery for large, complex cases (neuro, thoracic, vascular, ortho spine)
- Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips; pass telemetry assessment on Day 1 (85% or better)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
- ICU experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, 0600–2000 unit; Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends, holidays, or on-call; may float to inpatient PACU as needed
