Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adult med/surg telemetry patients on a mixed census unit that also accommodates overflow from ED.
- Monitor vitals and telemetry equipment; perform 12-lead EKG interpretation as needed.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and perform phlebotomy and IV insertion within scope.
- Support enteral feeding, Foley catheter care and insertions, wound care and simple dressing changes.
- Maintain thorough documentation in EPIC; communicate patient status changes to the interdisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with IV teams, PT, Respiratory, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response, Pharmacy, Transport, and Unit Secretary; implement isolation precautions when required.
Requirements
- License: Active New York state license in hand to submit
- Certifications: BLS required; phlebotomy and IV insertion skills
- Experience: Minimum 1 year med/surg/telemetry experience; previous charge experience preferred; first-time travelers accepted
- Education: Not specified in notes; general clinical competency expected
- Additional: Ability to float to med/surg as needed and to work in a fast-paced unit with variable census; EPIC charting proficiency
