Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for a group of patients during the designated shift, delivering nursing care based on the nursing process and aligned with the medical plan of care.
- Prescribe or implement nursing care based on patient input, collaborating with physicians and the broader health care team.
- Coordinate delivery of care for patients of any age within the ED, including neonatal to geriatric, adapting to unit assignment.
- Incorporate teaching and discharge planning needs into the overall plan of care for patients and families.
- Delegate appropriate aspects of care to other nursing staff according to current clinical competence and scope of practice.
- Provide triage, treatment, and support for trauma and emergency patients in an acute care ED setting, ensuring timely assessment and appropriate interventions.
- Maintain thorough documentation, uphold patient safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Active California RN license (or eligibility)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Emergency department experience preferred; strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts and adapt to a fast-paced ED environment
- Graduation from an approved nursing program (RN) (ADN or BSN acceptable)
- Effective collaboration with diverse care teams and ability to educate patients and families
