Responsibilities
- Act as scrub technician: scrub, don gown and gloves; set up sterile field with draping, instruments and supplies based on the procedure and surgeon’s preferences; gather required instruments and equipment.
- Assist in patient transfer and positioning and prepare and drape the operative field; anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments and sterile supplies during procedures.
- Maintain correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse; report discrepancies and maintain aseptic technique to protect the sterile field.
- Assist with specimens handling and preparation (e.g., identifying and handing specimens to the circulating nurse, preparing slides) and assist in the application of dressings after procedures.
- Support patient safety and care: adhere to safety and infection control policies, decontaminate equipment and assists in cleaning the room and maintaining a clean, organized surgical suite.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the surgical team; uphold patient confidentiality and participate in team-based care.

Requirements
- Ability to function in a surgical unit/operating room as a scrub technician and work within a sterile environment.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and infection prevention practices.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient handling and positioning.
- Flexibility to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; attention to safety and confidentiality.
- Ability to comply with safety, infection control policies, and unit procedures.
