Responsibilities
- Administer and monitor prescribed respiratory therapies for adult and geriatric patients, including aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy, as well as ventilator support, in accordance with physician orders and department policies.
- Draw arterial blood gases and document results in the electronic medical record; complete required paperwork and charge entries for each patient.
- Assess patient response to therapy, document progress, and communicate recommendations to the care team.
- Provide supervision or training as delegated; assist in instruction of nursing personnel in equipment use and patient surveillance after initial installation.
- Perform pulmonary function tests and drainage procedures; contribute to comprehensive care plans for cardio-respiratory conditions.
- Maintain competency for ICU and/or ED care; demonstrate NICU/OB and Level II nursery experience as required by the assignment.
Requirements
- Licenses/Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in California; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required. BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred; Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of recent respiratory care experience, including critical care and Level II nursery exposure; ICU/ED experience required.
- Additional: Must be able to work in a high-acuity hospital environment and meet the NICU/OB Level II nursery requirements specified.
