Responsibilities
- Provide direct, patient-centered care for medical step-down patients in a 16–20 bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Perform ongoing assessments, monitor progress, interpret vitals and lab results, and adjust plans of care as indicated.
- Administer medications and IV therapies, titrate IV drips when ordered, and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interprofessional teams to plan care, discharge, or transfer as clinically appropriate.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner; uphold safety and infection control standards.
- Respond to acute changes in patient condition (e.g., sepsis, respiratory decompensation, status epilepticus) and provide appropriate supportive care and escalation.
Requirements
- Active RN license (state appropriate for assignment) or eligibility
- ACLS and BLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a medical step-down/high-acuity environment
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts, four days per week
- Nursing degree from an accredited program
