Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive speech-language pathology evaluation and treatment for adult patients in an acute care setting.
- Conduct MBSS (Modified Barium Swallow Study) evaluations and related swallow therapy; interpret findings and update the care plan accordingly.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable goals; participate in discharge planning and patient progression.
- Document evaluations, progress notes, goals, and treatment plans in the medical record following hospital policy and state requirements.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other therapists; communicate patient status and recommendations clearly.
- Educate patients and families on communication strategies, swallowing safety, and post-discharge expectations; provide counseling and support as needed.
Requirements
- License: Current nursing license per the state of assignment
- Certification: Current BLS certification
- Experience: At least two years of recent experience in the field; two years of acute care with adults preferred (one year considered if an acute care internship was completed)
- Specialty skills: Proficiency in conducting MBSS
- Shift/availability: Weekend rotation required (likely every 3rd Saturday/Sunday)
- Setting capability: Ability to work effectively in a Short Term Acute Care Hospital environment
