Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed ionizing radiation therapy according to physician prescriptions and treatment plans, with proper patient identification and chart verification.
- Explain procedures, expected sensations, and safety measures to patients; maintain clear communication and respond to questions during treatment.
- Deliver prescribed daily dose while observing radiation safety for patients and staff; verify beam parameters and monitor equipment for alarms.
- Prepare treatment room and equipment, including immobilization devices, and assist with patient positioning and transfer to the treatment couch.
- Monitor patients during treatment for adverse reactions or signs of complications; document observations and escalate to the supervisor or physician as needed.
- Maintain and review treatment records, daily fractions, patient charts, and related documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocol; support clinical education of students or staff as assigned.
Requirements
- Current California licensure to practice radiologic technology
- ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy (AART-T) required
- Therapeutic Radiology Technology (RTT) certification required
- Minimum two years of recent radiologic technology experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred
- Fluoroscopy permit from the state practice: Preferred
