Responsibilities
- Under limited direct supervision, assist in care of patients undergoing anesthesia, including preparation of anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival, placement of monitors, equipment cleanliness, and set-up of medications and supplies; continuously communicate with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet daily needs.
- Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and placement of central line catheters; operate the cell saver machine, track lab reports, and participate in complex surgical cases; provide on-call coverage as needed.
- Ensure anesthesia equipment is in good working order; perform preventive maintenance, set up and operate sophisticated equipment, troubleshoot advanced issues, and serve as a resource for specialized equipment use.
- Contribute to staff development by assisting in in-service training programs and training of new anesthesia technology staff.
- Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, transport monitors, calibrating anesthesia machines, and attaching fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
- Prepare and reset operating rooms between cases, organize carts, and coordinate with other units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment; support ectopic or out-of-OR procedures as needed.
- Provide backup to the shift supervisor in their absence due to vacation or illness; perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum two years of experience as an anesthesia technologist/tech
- Preferred: a four-year college education including related technical training, or a two-year college education with related technical training plus two years of experience, or an equivalent combination
- Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other nationally recognized certifying body preferred
- Ability to work in a hospital setting; willingness to participate in on-call coverage as required
