Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to students in the school health office, including triage, first aid, wound care, medication administration per protocol, and monitoring of chronic conditions.
- Assess and document health concerns, perform basic physical assessments, escalate issues per policy, and maintain accurate health records.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, following school policies and state regulations; ensure safe storage and documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and local healthcare providers to support student health plans and accommodations.
- Maintain infection control, sanitize clinical spaces, manage supplies, and ensure safe handling of bloodborne and communicable disease precautions.
- Respond to medical emergencies and injuries during school hours, provide immediate care, and coordinate transport or referral as needed.
Requirements
- Active Vermont Licensed Practical Nurse license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Eligibility to obtain school-specific clearances and background checks
- Comfort working with school-aged students in a K-12 setting
- Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
