Responsibilities
- Provide direct, professional nursing care to adult patients on a Med/Surg stroke stepdown unit, addressing stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and related conditions.
- Monitor neurological status and overall patient condition, administer medications and IV therapies, manage IV pumps, and care for feeding and feeding-tube needs as ordered.
- Collaborate with physicians, case management, therapy teams, and ancillary staff; participate in rounds; implement care plans and discharge planning; educate patients and families as appropriate.
- Document thoroughly in the EPIC EMR, maintain accurate nursing notes, orders, and care plans, and ensure medication reconciliation and safety checks are completed.
- Float to related units as needed per assignment; adhere to unit policies, infection control practices, and safety protocols; maintain professional nursing responsibilities during shifts.
Requirements
- Active New York Registered Nurse license; Nursys verification of license
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification or ability to obtain prior to start (unit requires NIH stroke scale)
- 2+ years of med-surg experience with stroke stepdown care
- Travel experience required; local candidates considered for local rate (less than 75 miles from assignment)
- EMR experience with EPIC
- Valid driver’s license with address matching demographics; RTO (time off) must be included at submission
