Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department for a broad age range (newborn to geriatric), including triage, assessment, monitoring, and ongoing reassessment.
- Administer medications, initiate IV access, perform EKGs, manage airway/ventilation as needed, and assist with procedures and resuscitation efforts.
- Document care in the electronic medical record (Epic) and communicate changes in patient status to the ED team.
- Collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, ED techs, and support staff to coordinate patient care and safe transports when higher level of care is required.
- Demonstrate competency with unit protocols (including IV drips/infusions, restraint application, procedural sedation, and patient transports by ambulance) and adhere to ED workflows and CMS guidelines.
- Apply triage acuity (ESI) and maintain patient safety, comfort, and infection control standards throughout the shift.
- Participate in shift handoffs, orienting and precepting where needed, and maintain flexibility to meet unit and patient care needs.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Vermont (or eligibility to obtain) prior to start.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC required. TNCC or proof of class with date applied; NIHSS required prior to start.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience; in-unit ED experience preferred. At least 1 prior travel assignment completed.
- Specialty experience: Prior ED/travel experience strongly preferred; EPIC EMR experience within the past 2 years is required.
- Scheduling and environment: Ability to work 12-hour night shifts; comfortable working in a high-volume ED with a 1:4 nurse-patient ratio and ED technician support; capable of handling trauma, STEMI, and stroke transports as part of ED operations.
- Communication and teamwork: Strong collaboration with multidisciplinary team; ability to be flexible and adapt to rural ED operations and telemedicine components.
