Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care on a Med/Surg/Tele unit for adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients with medical conditions; provide oncology-focused monitoring and support.
- Assess patient and family needs using active listening and data analysis; collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional team to develop and adjust an individualized plan of care.
- Administer medications and monitor for effectiveness and adverse effects; uphold infection prevention standards and safety across all care activities.
- Educate patients and families on discharge planning, self-care, symptom management, and when to seek follow-up care; document education and patient understanding.
- Promote a healing environment by providing emotional support, anticipatory guidance, and coordination of care across shifts and disciplines.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses; engage in ongoing quality improvement and professional development to enhance nursing practice.
Requirements
- NYS Registered Nurse licensure required
- BLS and ACLS (AHA or RQI only) required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg RN experience
- Ability to work 3x12-hour night shifts with weekend and holiday rotations; on-call shifts as scheduled
- Willingness to work in a Med/Surg/Tele setting with oncology patient care needs
