Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for acute and subacute hospital patients
- Implement therapy interventions to address activities of daily living, fine motor skills, cognitive function, sensory processing, and upper-extremity function
- Monitor patient progress, adjust goals and interventions, and document outcomes in the medical record
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team (nursing, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, social work) to support discharge planning and care transitions
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, and strategies to maximize independence during recovery
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements while coordinating care across fluctuating facility assignments
Requirements
- Active Occupational Therapist license in Illinois (or eligibility for licensure in Illinois)
- Certifications may be required for specific departments, including BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS depending on the assigned unit and department
- Ability to work in a hospital setting and travel between regional facilities within southern Illinois
- Strong documentation, communication, and teamwork skills
- Willingness to float between facilities as needed and to adapt to varying unit protocols
