Work setting: Travel assignment at a Critical Access Hospital
This travel RN role supports obstetric and neonatal care across the spectrum from labor and delivery through postpartum and early infant care. The position requires strong labor and postpartum experience, with occasional day-shift support as needed. The assignment emphasizes collaborative, multidisciplinary care and adherence to unit and hospital policies in a high-acuity obstetric environment.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct, continuous care for laboring patients, postpartum women, and newborns up to 28 days old, coordinating with the broader care team.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status, perform fetal monitoring interpretation, and respond to changes in condition; coordinate with physicians and ancillary services as needed.
- Administer medications, manage labor progression, analgesia, and supportive therapies within established protocols; assist with delivery as indicated.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues (nursing, obstetrics, anesthesia, lactation, social work) to plan and execute individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation; ensure safe patient handoffs and continuity of care between shifts.
- Educate patients and families on birth, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and lactation support; participate in discharge planning and follow-up education.
- Uphold infection control, safety standards, and patient privacy; comply with regulatory and organizational requirements.
Requirements
- Current California RN license.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- 3–4 years of labor and postpartum experience; strong labor support and postpartum care skills.
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification within six months of employment; recertified every two years.
- BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.
- NRP certification and hospital-based conscious sedation certification required within six months of employment; recertified every two years.
- ACLS and STABLE certification preferred.
- Ability to work nights in a high-acuity obstetric and newborn care setting; willingness to provide occasional day coverage as needed.
