Embrace the challenge and reward of neonatal care as a traveling Registered Nurse in NICU in San Luis Obispo, California. In this specialized role, you’ll join a dedicated neonatology team to deliver high-stakes, compassionate care for newborns—stabilizing fragile infants, supporting families, and collaborating with physicians, therapists, and nurses to craft individualized care plans. Your hands will be steady at the incubator, your mind attuned to subtle changes in respiration or temperature, and your voice a source of reassurance for anxious parents. This multi-week assignment is designed for skilled NICU nurses who crave professional growth and the freedom to explore diverse clinical settings; it’s a chance to broaden your clinical repertoire while leaving a lasting imprint on tiny patients and their families. And as you travel, you’ll discover a state famed for innovation in neonatal care and a community that values empathy, precision, and teamwork. You’ll begin this journey on 04/06/2026 for a weeks-long assignment that prioritizes your development, autonomy, and the meaningful differences you bring to every shift.

Separately, California’s beauty invites exploration beyond the unit. The Central Coast offers sun-drenched beaches, dramatic coastline, and redwood-hued hiking trails, alongside rolling vineyards and farm-to-table dining. In your downtime, you can stroll the charming streets of San Luis Obispo, savor local fare, and witness legendary sunsets over the Pacific. This backdrop supports balance as you deliver expert NICU care and build lasting memories, making every day at work feel purposeful and refreshing when you return to the bedside refreshed and inspired.

Location Benefits: San Luis Obispo is renowned for its mild climate, safe neighborhoods, and an inviting community that makes it easy to settle in quickly. You’ll enjoy access to outdoor recreation, cultural events, and exceptional dining while you provide neonatal care at the forefront of the specialty. This combination of a supportive, scenic home base with opportunities to extend your experience nationally creates a uniquely rewarding travel nursing path for a NICU expert seeking both stability and variety.

Role Specifics and Benefits: As a NICU RN, you will lead or participate in bedside care for premature and term newborns with complex medical needs. Responsibilities include monitoring respiratory status, assisting with ventilated patients, managing IV lines and infusion therapy, administering medications, performing comprehensive head-to-toe assessments, calculating growth parameters, coordinating with lactation consultants, and educating families about care plans and discharge readiness. You’ll participate in rounds, contribute to evidence-based care, and engage in quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing length of stay and enhancing parent-infant bonding. The position offers a competitive compensation package with a weekly pay range of $1,977-$2,070, plus a bonus, housing assistance, and opportunities to extend contracts. You’ll have access to robust support from a 24/7 travel team, ensuring smooth transitions between assignments, credentialing assistance, and on-call clinical mentorship whenever you need it. This role is designed to support your professional growth in neonatology, including opportunities to pursue NICU-certified credentials, participate in simulations and continuing education, and take on mentorship roles as you gain experience.

Company Values: Our company is deeply committed to empowering staff, prioritizing career advancement, mentorship, and a supportive work environment. We invest in your growth with ongoing education, leadership development, and a culture rooted in safety, collaboration, and compassion. You’ll join a community that recognizes your expertise, respects your voice, and champions a balanced, ambitious career path that aligns with your future goals.
