Responsibilities
- Serve as scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments, assist with placement of sterile drapes, and hand instruments to the surgical team while maintaining a sterile field.
- Maintain sterility of the operative field, anticipate needs of the surgical team, and help prepare sterile dressings.
- Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to decontamination areas; assist with post-procedure room cleaning and setup for subsequent patients.
- Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub duties; support privacy and confidentiality of patients and health information.
- May be floated to other departments where qualified to perform patient care before core staff is floated.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certifications: BLS required; CST preferred.
- Experience: No specific years of experience required in the provided notes; must be able to function effectively as a scrub person in the operative environment.
- Licensure: Not specified beyond credential requirements; must be able to work in the listed setting.
- General: Ability to work in a sterile surgical environment and to collaborate with the surgical team; willingness to be floated to other departments if qualified.
