Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive speech-language assessments and screen for swallowing disorders in residents
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans addressing communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing goals
- Provide direct speech-language therapy and monitor progress; adjust plans as needed
- Document assessments and treatment notes in the medical record; communicate findings to the care team
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (nursing, medical staff, dietitians, social work) to optimize patient outcomes and discharge planning
- Educate residents and families on therapy goals, home practice programs, and safety strategies; participate in care conferences
- Maintain equipment, follow infection control protocols, and ensure safety during therapy sessions
