Travel Registered Nurse Med Surg Job
Registered Nurse – Med Surg (Stroke Stepdown) in Utica, NY. Start date 06/08/2026 for a 13-week travel assignment with guaranteed hours. Weekly pay range: $2,210–$2,310 per week. Shift: Night shift, 12-hour blocks (3 nights per week). Setting: inpatient Med Surg/Stroke Stepdown with a 64-bed unit; this assignment requires floating within the unit per need. This position is offered as a travel - temporary assignment.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to adult patients on the Med Surg Stroke Stepdown unit, including monitoring neurological status and implementing stroke protocols.
- administer prescribed medications, manage IV pumps, and handle enteral feeding tubes as clinically indicated.
- Perform frequent neuro assessments, respond to changes in patient condition, and escalate to the medical team when needed.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, therapists, case management) to coordinate care, monitor safety, and support discharge planning.
- Document care in the electronic health record (EPIC) with accuracy and timeliness; participate in unit rounds and handoffs.
- Manage common unit diagnoses (stroke, altered mental status, renal/dialysis needs, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, isolation precautions) and utilize unit-specific equipment safely.
Requirements
- Active New York RN license; NURSYS license verification showing an active NY license and any other active RN licenses.
- Minimum 2+ years of Med Surg experience with stroke stepdown exposure; travel experience required.
- Current AHA BLS certification; NIHSS certification or demonstrated NIHSS proficiency (NIH is required for this unit and can be obtained prior to start).
- EPIC EMR experience.
- Ability to float within the Med Surg/stepdown environment; RTO must be included at submission.
- Driver’s license with address matching demographics.
