Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to CICU patients following open-heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries.
- Monitor complex cardiac status and hemodynamics; manage life-sustaining devices such as intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella, CRRT, and epicardial pacemakers.
- Perform thorough neuro, respiratory, and hemodynamic assessments; administer medications and manage lines, tubes, and drains per protocol.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; participate in rounds, contribute to care plans, and communicate changes in patient status to families.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record; ensure infection control, safety, and quality standards; respond to code events as needed.
- Ensure holiday coverage as required and uphold CICU patient and family education and discharge planning.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license (state as required)
- Minimum 2 years of recent CICU experience
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- CCRN certification preferred; NIH certification preferred
- Ability to work in a high-acuity CICU environment and support a 12-hour day shift schedule; willingness to work holiday coverage as required
